About the Programme
Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) is a National Diploma programme accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). At The Polytechnic Ibadan, the programme runs under the Faculty of Science and admits students through JAMB and direct entry routes.
The programme blends theoretical study with heavy laboratory practice. Students spend significant time in chemistry labs, biology labs, physics labs, and specialized SLT labs. The goal is to produce competent laboratory technologists who can work in any scientific setting.
The programme runs for two years (four semesters) leading to a National Diploma (ND). Strong CGPA graduates may proceed to Higher National Diploma (HND) or degree programmes in related fields.
SIWES
Students are required to undergo the Students' Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) — a period of industrial attachment in relevant industries and laboratories. SIWES is compulsory for the award of the National Diploma.
Attendance Requirement
Students must attend at least 70% of lectures and practical sessions per semester. Failure to meet this disqualifies a student from sitting exams in the affected course(s).
